Why we only list independent pros
Private equity firms have been buying up local HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies across the country. Many kept the old family name on the trucks. Fair Repair exists so you can tell the difference.
What changes when a fund buys your plumber
A fund buys a company planning to sell it again in a few years for more money. That usually means sales targets for technicians, more upselling of replacements over repairs, and big ad budgets to win the top spot on Google. You pay for all of it.
An owner-run shop answers to its customers and its reputation in the neighborhood. That's who we want you to hire.
How we verify
Verified Independent- Ownership. The owner attests that the business is majority owned by people who work in it, and is not owned by private equity, an acquisition platform, or a franchisor.
- Records check. We check Texas business filings and licensing records, and look for acquisition announcements.
- Reputation. At least 4.6 stars on public reviews, with enough reviews to mean something.
- Ongoing. If a listed company sells to a fund or a roll-up, it comes off the site.
How we make money
Homeowners never pay. Pros pay a small fee when a homeowner sends them a request. No pro can pay to rank higher, and we never sell your request to anyone you didn't choose.
